Ino was bored at work. Ino was plotting Arthur's humiliation at work.

"Zaaaack," Ino said, figuring he'd figure it out. "When did we want to pudding Arthur, please?"

It would make her feel better! Slacking. Geez. Whatever, Arthur.

"Zack? I'm not going to be there for today's reserves meeting. I... have my reasons. Were you still interested in doing tactics training? If so, well, I'm at work today, but I'm free sometime during the rest of the week. Whenever you'd like."

A pause.

"Thank you. You really don't know how much I appreciate this."

"Zack?"

A beat.

"Dragon entrails are disgusting. Smack Leto for me."

"Zack, my apologies for not being at the reserve meeting this Tuesday. Merlin and myself found ourselves on an unplanned trip elsewhere. We've returned safe and sound. I hope you'll keep me informed about the newcomers."

"Uh, hi, Zack? Yeah. This is Turtle, and, um...okay, kind of awkward, but I'm trapped in the missing dimension in my closet. It happens sometimes. I don't know when I'm going to get a chance to get out of here, but I'm pretty sure it won't be before our ice cream date tonight, soooo....yeah. Sorry? I owe you a rain check? Hopefully, this'll clear up real soon and without incident, but it's really hard to tell in this closet. Sorry again! Bye..."

Okay, by now Ino was pretty sure that the phones were just plain whacked by this point.

That wasn't going to stop her from answering her messages though. Seriously. This was fun. Especially when she was a bit hazy on the definitions! Obviously that just meant she had to make up her own.

"Web cams? They're cameras attached to the internet and most people use them to have cyber sex while watching each other get off on it all and stuff and—why are you asking me about this? I am kind of wigged out by you right now and no, no I do not have a web cam and no even if I had one I wouldn't be doing anything like that for you. Creep."

Inside would be a handful of small handmade chocolate hearts.

Despite ~~the linked image~~ her best efforts, they may not all look perfect, but they taste like normal sweet chocolate.

Ino had a party all set up and that was utterly fantastic! But you know what would make it even more fantastic? Having the birthday boy there! She was pretty sure that'd help, yes! Which meant Ino was texting him once she'd decided things were set up enough to do so:

Zaaack! Wanna have dinner with me on the beach? It's utterly gorgeous out. Meet me there, okay?

She grinned as she sent it. Ino believed in keeping the lie simple. He’d have dinner, after all, it just wasn’t with just her.

Eliot knew what today was. It didn't take more than the first message to clue him in as to what today was. But when he got a message from the new local cop who clearly didn't know what today was, he felt obligated to at least try to return it.

In text, even, because clearly that was the proper way to trick his phone into sending it properly, right?

Fandom's phones go wonky sometimes. I didn't leave you that message. But that sounds like a nice collection of blades to me. You ever wanna talk shop about that stuff, let me know. I can show you my swords.

Zack this is Hernando. There is a giant evil shadow wall in the woods and Kaidan is trapped on the other side and something is attacking him. Could you bring your big sword please?

Zack, got a job so I'll be gone for a bit.

Ino studied that text for a moment, then added:

I love you.

After he picked up the message Zack had left him, Miguel swore, then called him back.

"Damn it, Zack, you'd better be careful! Call me if you need anything, and good luck."

Stupid daredevil friends.

Left on the doorstep of Zack and Ino's apartment on Valentine's Day:

Honestly, while the water was annoying, it was mostly just that for her, since she could walk on water.

(And it helped that her shop was not flooded.)

But she was still sending Zack a text:

Are you going to need help with Girl this week? Or the other animals?

Since, as far as her memories went, Zack didn't know water walking all that well... and all their awkwardness aside, the animals and their health and safety were more important.

To him, at least. And, so, also to her.

So far, so good! The main floor of the shelter is flooded to my waist, but all the not-fish and their supplies ended up in the apartment overnight, so they're safe anyway. Taps are working fine for freshwater, even the power seems to be unaffected.

Which was good, because Zack would have a bone to pick with an entire island if it put the animals in danger over an apparent case of wanderlust.

What kind of help were you thinking?

Oh, that's great! I'm glad they're doing okay!

Iris hummed a little as she considered the rest of that.

And I hadn't really decided, but I'm cute, a quick study, can both walk on water and teleport, so I figured, if help was needed, I could sub in basically anywhere?

Zack considered that for a minute, and then looked up toward the ceiling, and considered for a minute more.

We know the cute part is the most important!

Clearly. Couldn't play with puppies if you weren't, right?

Sidon will probably have anything that needs to happen on the main floor handled on Friday when he comes in, but there are a few animals that are pretty freaked out by going down there. If any of those ones get adopted out this week, maybe you could help get them to somewhere a little less spooky for them?

And while she wanted to read more into it than light banter, Iris knew better than that.

And then, after a few moments of consideration, he also sent a heart emoji.

It was purple.

And it was maybe a little bit silly, how happy that one, single emoji made her.

Iris thought about things she could say but, in the end, she just sent some rainbows and smileys back at him.

At some point in the weird fugue between yesterday, today, and Prompto's travels, a voicemail would make its way into Zack's inbox.

"Yo, Zack! Hey! It's Prompto! Anyway, I'm just calling to let you know that I won't be in this week; I've got to head home for a bit, you know? I asked Sidon see if he could cover for me, too, but I haven't heard back from him yet, so he might? Or might not, I don't know, either way, man, I know I've missed before so it's not a big deal, but I just wanted to sort of give you a head's up. Tell Iris and Silly I said hi! And tell Iris she's lucky I didn't just choconap Silly and take him with me to Insomnia!" He laughed a little, maybe a little forced, but the idea definitely did cheer him up a little and an awkward sort of silence followed.

"Anyway, yeah, just letting you know what's up. Thanks for being cool about everything, dude. Thanks...for...everything really..."
